Our acts of faith often remain a purely exterior adherence…

Our acts of faith often remain imperfect because we think too much, due to lack of love for the one speaking to us… we believe, while measuring our adherence by our understanding of the word of God, by the understanding we have of the propositions of faith. Our act of faith does tend toward the mystery, but our consciousness of the act of faith is what interests us above all. Such overly rational, psychological self-reflection risks diminishing the realism and the absoluteness of the adherence of faith. Our acts of faith are imperfect and can remain so because we are not sufficiently surrendered to the love of God…
