04.23.14 ~ Wednesday in the Octave of Easter

Acts 3:6

Peter said, “I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, (rise and) walk.”

In Conversation with God:

We… if only we would examine ourselves sincerely, with an attentive examination of our sadness, our discouragement, our being a little tired of life, would… discover how spontaneously we remark ‘Jesus was’, ‘Jesus said’, because we forget that… Jesus is alive and by our side at this very moment…

Persevering in one’s vocation is a matter of responding to the calls that God makes in the course of a lifetime… of coping with isolated incidents of cowardice or defeat. Christ’s call requires a firm and constant response…

Failure… in the vocation that God has desired for us means failure in everything…

CCC #588

Jesus scandalized the Pharisees by eating with tax collectors and sinners as familiarly as with themselves. Against those among them “who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others”, Jesus affirmed: “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” He went further by proclaiming before the Pharisees that, since sin is universal, those who pretend not to need salvation are blind to themselves.
