Jer 17:9

More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?

Lk 16:31

Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.

In Conversation with God:

A blessing on the man who puts his trust in the Lord, and has the Lord for his hope. He is like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots into the stream…

He… whose heart turns from the Lord, is… barren and ineffective with respect to what really matters… if good comes, he has no eyes for it…

For us to reach God, Christ is the Way; but Christ is on the Cross, and to climb up to the Cross we must have our hearts free, not tied to earthly things… He became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich…

It makes little difference.. whether a bird is tied by a thin thread or by a cord. For even if tied by thread, the bird will be prevented from taking off just as surely as if it were tied by cord – that is, it will be impeded from flight as long as it does not break the thread. Admittedly, the thread is easier to snap, but no matter how easily this may be done, the bird will not fly away before first doing so…

For it was not poverty that led Lazarus to heaven, but humility; nor was it wealth that prevented the rich man from attaining eternal rest but rather his egoism and his infidelity…

God does not dwell in a soul filled with lumber, bric-a-brac and trinkets… a constant vigil over interior order and cleanliness is needed…

He who has what he needs for his use may possess these things, but he will possess them as if he possessed nothing; he foresees that suddenly he will have to leave them…

CCC #286

Human intelligence is surely already capable of finding a response to the question of origins. the existence of God the Creator can be known with certainty through his works, by the light of human reason, even if this knowledge is often obscured and disfigured by error. This is why faith comes to confirm and enlighten reason in the correct understanding of this truth: “By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear.”

Totus Tuus:

The Father could not show us his love in any more emphatic way than by giving us the one who is the eternal secret of his life, the one who is everything for him…

… Your mercy found me upon the broken road…
