Meds

1 Sm 15:22 – 23

… What, said Samuel, thinkest thou the Lord’s favour can be won by offering him sacrifice and victim, instead of obeying his divine will? The Lord loves obedience better than any sacrifice, the attentive ear better than the fat of rams. Rebellion is sin as witchcraft is sin, all one with idolatry is the unsubmissive heart.

In Conversation with God:

The New Testament is the fulness and fulfilment of the Old Testament. Christ shows the contrast between the spirit He brings and that of the Judaism of his time. This new spirit will not be like a patch added on to something old; rather it will be a compete and definitive new beginning which replaces the provisional and imperfect realities of the ancient revelation. Like new wine, the newness of Christ’s message, its fulness, does not fit into the mould of the Old Law…

With the Ascension, one stage in Revelation is closed, and with Pentecost, the new age, the time of the Church, commences…

… the Church, our Mother, has never admitted differences in matters of doctrine by teaching a partial or deformed truth; she has always remained vigilant so as to keep the faith in all its purity, and it is this faith she has taught throughout the world. Thanks to her unfailing faithfulness, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we are able to know the doctrine taught by Jesus Christ without any change or variation of the sense in which he taught it. From the day of Pentecost up to the present day we continue to hear Christ’s voice…

Holiness is not generally conspicuous in ways that attract attention; it does not make a lot of noise; it is supernatural; but it is immediately recognisable, because charity, which is the essence of holiness, has external manifestations: in the way it lives all the virtues, in the way it does the work it has to do, in its apostolic endeavour…

Sanctity is heroic in those who are of flesh, but do not live according to the flesh. They live on earth but their homeland is Heaven… They love others and others persecute them… They are calumniated and they bless. They suffer detraction and they honour their detractors… Their attitude… is a manifestation of God’s power. We could never count the number of the faithful who have lived their faith heroically; they are all in Heaven, although the Church has only canonised a few of them. Neither could we count here on earth the mothers, who full of faith, bring up their families generously and without thinking of themselves; the workers engaged in all types of honest occupation who sanctify their work; the students who carry out an effective apostolate and know how to go cheerfully against the current of opinion, and the many sick people who with joy and peace offer up their lives at home or in the hospital for their brothers and sisters in the Faith…

Each generation receives the deposit of the Faith revealed by Christ. Each generation transmits this deposit to the generation that follows, and so on until the end of time…

What is this ‘deposit’? It is what you have believed, not what you have discovered? It is what you have received, not what you have thought up. It is something which emanates from doctrine as opposed to human imagination. It is the fruit of a public tradition, not private property. It is something which has found you. You have not found it. You are not the author but the guardian; not the creator, but the protector; not the conductor, but the conducted. ‘Guard what has been entrusted to you’. Preserve and protect the Catholic Faith. What you have believed, that is what will remain with you, that is what you will hand on to others. Do not substitute one thing for another. Do not put iron in the place of gold. Do not mix things in a fraudulent manner. I do not want the appearance of gold, but only pure gold…

The truth which we have received from the Lord is one and immutable, integrally preserved from the beginning and down through the centuries. It cannot be brought ‘up-to-date’ or improved… Every attack against the unity of the Faith is an attack against Christ himself…

Yesterday and today the Church gives so much importance to the conservation of authentic revelation. This is the Church’s inviolable treasure. She is fully aware of her fundamental duty to defend and transmit the truths of the Faith in unequivocal terms. Orthodoxy is her first concern. Pastoral teaching is her primary and divinely-ordered duty… The Church teaches her doctrine. She does not invent it. She is the witness, custodian, interpreter and transmitter… Those who want her to make the Faith less demanding, more in accord with the spirit of our times, let them consider the words of the Apostles: non possumus, we cannot do it…

Veritatem facientes in caritate with those whom we meet and work with every day…Where there is no love, put love and you will draw out love…
