Bede ~ Junius 11 ~ Liber I ~ Section II ~ Genesis A

As yet was nought save shadows of darkness; the spacious earth lay hidden, deep and dim, alien to God, unpeopled and unused.

Thereon the Steadfast King looked down and beheld it, a place empty of joy…

The earth was not yet green with grass; the dark waves of the sea flowed over it, and midnight darkness was upon it, far and wide…

And in the beginning of creation was God well pleased.

The first day saw the dark and brooding shadows vanish throughout the spacious earth.

In Conversation with God:

Drinking the cup of another was a sign of deep friendship and of readiness to share a common destiny.

… sorrow will always be able to associate itself with the Lord’s chalice, to unite itself to his passion… What previously was meaningless now makes sense…

Bede ~ Ecclesiastical History of the English Nation ~ Preface

… if history relates good things of good men, the attentive hearer is excited to imitate that which is good… if it mentions evil things of wicked persons… the religious and pious hearer or reader, shunning that which is hurtful and perverse, is… more earnestly excited to perform those things which he knows to be good…

… who can say where the road goes, where the day flows… and who can say if your love grows as your heart chose… who can say why your heart sighs as your love flies… and who can say why your heart cries when your love lies… who can say when the roads meet, that love might be in your heart, and who can say when the day sleeps, if the night keeps all your heart, night keeps all your heart… who knows? only time…

ToB #59 ~ Pronouncements of Magisterium Apply Christ’s Words Today

We know well the functions of the body as an organism, the functions connected with the masculinity and femininity of the human person. But in itself, this science does not yet develop the awareness of the body as a sign of the person, as a manifestation of the spirit.

JPII goes on to note that in light of having developed a science which focuses on separating the corporeal from the spiritual, it is not surprising or difficult to begin to mistreat the body as “an object of manipulations.”

… a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection…
