Mary Vitamin for Ash Wednesday:

The desert is the heart of the sinner, which is indeed devoid of grace and virtue.

No desert doth the Virgin Mary abhor, no sinner doth she despise…

2nd reading today:

For he saith: In an accepted time have I heard thee and in the day of salvation have I helped thee. Behold, now is the acceptable time: behold, now is the day of salvation. ~ 2 Cor 6:2

Living Liturgy for Cantors:

… renewed relationships can only be realized through the self-denial that turns us away from ourselves. We deny self so that we may better give self. A whole heart is a giving heart.

… witness demands a great deal of honesty and vulnerability. What can help you be honest before God? What can help you be vulnerable before the community?

The Mass:

Fr. Matt made us laugh so much today during the homily. He was clarifying our obligations with regards to fasting and abstinence, and spoke of offering up the experience of enjoying the fishiness of fish; to not offer up the experience of enjoying the fishiness of fish if one was allergic to fish; and that giving up meat and opting for fish does not mean lobster. We are to fast with common sense. “That means that if you’ve got hyperglycemia, do what the doctor tells you. And if you don’t know what hyperglycemia is, don’t worry about it.” Fr. Matt also reminded us that fasting did not have to be from food, but could be from video games or texting or poking on facebook.

Lent is for rending our hearts, not our garments.

Our altar servers today were Migi, Toby, and Connor. Seeing the three of them up there together made me want to offer up this prayer of thanksgiving – for Catholic homeschoolers, for those mothers and fathers who are raising a generation of Real Men in a world where authentic masculinity is rarely recognized, appreciated, or even encouraged.

*mental playlist today, observing Ash Wednesday in quiet*

… Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place… You consider me a friend, You capture my heart again…
… heal my heart and make it clean… show me how to love like You have loved me… break my heart for what breaks Yours…
… You’re tearing up my roots and breaking down my walls…
… a clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me…
… if today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts…
… come back to Me with all your heart, don’t let fear keep us apart… long have I waited for your coming home to Me…
… Love, it will not betray you, dismay or enslave you, it will set you free… there is a design, an alignment, a cry of my heart to see the beauty of love as it was made to be…

ToB # 45 ~ Realization of the Value of the Body According to the Plan of the Creator

The condemnation of lust is not a condemnation of the body, but rather an affirmation of its dignity. It is worth more than what it is reduced to when objectified.

“… in… the nuptial meaning of the body… interior mastery and freedom of spirit are expressed.”
