Due to the tsunami over a year ago, radioactive cesium and iodine found their way into the ocean when the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant was damaged, and these elements have now been found in tuna caught off of the coast of California at levels ten times higher than recorded in previous years. It is suspected that the bluefin tuna has transported these radionuclides to relatively distant areas of the North and South Pacific Oceans. Yikes. Check where your sushi is coming from.
