Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)

Harry Potter is now 15. During the summer, he finds it hard to wait for news of Voldemort. Letters from his friends are scarce, and when they do come, they are short, and do not reveal any of the information that Harry is dying to hear. When dementors show up on Privet Drive, Harry performs the Patronus Charm to save himself and Dudley. The law says that underage wizards are allowed to use magic in life-threatening situations, yet Harry receives a note from the Ministry of Magic saying that they are going to confiscate his wand. 5 seconds later, he receives another note from Mr. Weasley telling him not to do any more magic, not to hand his wand over to the Ministry, and to stay at home. Harry is angry. Isn’t anyone going to congratulate him for fighting off two dementors??? A couple days later, a group of wizards come to take Harry away. Among them are Remus Lupin and Mad-Eye Moody(the real one, that is:-). They take him to Number 12, Grimmauld Place, headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. What is the Order of the Phoenix? And why hasn’t Harry been told of its existence before? Harry is angry when he finds that members of the Order have been keeping an eye on him all summer. And old Mrs. Figg is a sqib! Why haven’t they revealed themselves? Dumbledore’s orders, apparently. Harry finds that the Ministry refuses to believe that Voldemort is back. The Daily Prophet has been passing Harry off as a liar and a lunatic. Dumbledore is no longer welcome at the Ministry. At school, Harry finds that his closest friends have turned against him, with the exception of Ron and Hermione, of course. Even Percy Weasley has left home in contempt for his parents’ loyalty to Dumbledore. Half the school is afraid of Harry. The new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is a spy for the Ministry. Dolores Jane Umbridge is out to take control of Hogwarts and convince everyone that Voldemort is not back, and that Harry is totally out of his mind. Harry and 24 others form the Defense Association, D. A. , for short. D. A. also stands for Dumbledore’s Army. But when one of the Association sqeals, Dumbledore is forced to flee, Umbridge promotes herself to headmistress. Where is Dumbledore? In The Order of the Phoenix Harry finally learns why Voldemort wants so badly to kill him, why he must face Voldemort again.
