Mana and I used to play hand games on the bus… I taught her a few.
At the Fourth of July concert in ‘01, Gab and I stood back to back trying to see who was taller. Turns out, we were the same height.
Dan was sick. He and Greg usually raced up the driveway as soon as they got off the bus, but that day, since Greg was alone, he walked really really slowly with his head down.
I missed my bus.. forget why. I was waiting down at the office, and Mrs. Kapcar was there with Brian, because he was on crutches because he’d cut the sole of his foot? So they took me home, and on the way, Brian showed me the orange stitches on his sole. His favorite color was orange. The stitches were freaky. They were.. eww.
Haha at the P.H.D. Assembly with the steel drums? The teachers were doing the limbo!!!
We used to swing around and around and around on the tire swing, and we always felt like we’d be sick afterwards, but we never were, we just had a horrible headache, that we’d have to lie down in the grass to breathe.
Kyle Huffine broke his leg lifting girls on the bridge back in second grade. The girls would stand on the bridge, and he’d be lying underneath, pushing the bridge up with his feet. The nurse came out to see him, and there was this insanely huge crowd of kids around them, and the last we saw was Mr. Korn carrying him in as fast as he could.
Pokemon was the “thing” back then. We used to play Pika Pika on the field, and to be perfectly honest, I never really understood what on earth I was saying or doing. I just made the noises they told me to, and lay down in the pine needles once I’d been “captured”!
We’d have “clubs” on the playground. They never lasted more than a couple months.
Jen and I were both learning round-off back hand-springs. We’d be working together, and I’d say “boo!” whenever she’d go, and it would mess her up, and she wouldn’t get any farther than the round-off. She’d do it to me, too, but to my satisfaction, I was less jumpy and had more focus than her…
Part of our team routine was that, us younger girls would lie face-down on the floor diagonally, and the older girls would do dive-rolls over our backs.
Lanie used to swing me around after class. I’d always ask her to, and she was always nice enough to do it.
At morning meeting in third grade, 5W, Mrs. Berryman’s class, the activity of the morning was to go around and tell our favorite food. I can’t remember very much, but Brian’s was pigs-in-a-blanket, and Greg was the only one who remembered mine (Lecheflan).
Mrs. Peterson asked me to play Ode to Joy for the class, because it was the next song that we were learning, and I already knew it.
We were rehersing for the Wax Museum. I went up to the front of the room and sang “Hero.” Brian said I had a good voice.
When we were working on our mummy cases, I always loved using the tiniest brushes. Mrs. Siegler used to call me the “queen of detail.”
I used to sit by Alex in music class at one point, and Mrs. Peterson had us watch movies sometimes, and she’d turn off the lights, so Alex and I, we were sitting right in front of the TV, and it was some fairy tale with puppets where this boy goes to all different lands with the aid of magic and then goes back home to his mommy and tells her all about it. Anyway, it was somewhat boring, though funny, so Alex and I were talking about Dana practically the whole time.
At the second rehersal for the fourth grade celebration, Danny and Alex were arguing over who was supposed to be by me, because neither wanted to be by Allison. And I couldn’t help noticing the fuss they were making, so before the teacher noticed, I turned and asked what on earth they were arguing about, and Alex goes, “Aisa, whose supposed to be standing by you, me or Danny?” and because I didn’t know what on earth they were going on about, I said quite plainly and truthfully that he was. And then it was only after that that Danny made some remark or another that I understood why they’d been arguing… so it ended up as follows; me, Alex, Danny, Allison.
Ms. Bates would have us advanced students (me, Jared [naturally], Derick [I know, seriously…], Kevin, Liz… mmph can’t remember who else was up there. anyway…) help out everyone else with their math once we were done with ours. I dunno, but some of my memories include helping Brennan and Danny with their math…
Kelsey was messing with her new school stuff, and she cut her hand on her pencil sharpener, and there was a fuss and Ms. Bates wasn’t looking, so she hid the blood in her sweater and told the rest of us not to tell. Well, Jared told anyway, and on his way back, he was like “It’s for your own good!”
Two words. Matt Boyce. Urrrrghhh more or less every girl in the school hated him. Hmph. Anyway, some random day, he would NOT let me get to my locker, and kept on saying, “Aisa-a-a-a… Aisa-a-a-a-a…” and it was driving me nuts, my bus was coming! (Off to the side, Rachel was half-hiding in the girls bathroom and every time she came out she’d giggle.) So I ran back to my homeroom, back to my desk, and the first person I see is Brennan, so I burst out, “Matt Boyce won’t let me get to my locker!” and Brennan takes me out of the room and goes and scares Matt off so that I can get to my locker. Insane-ness, don’t ask…
Molly used to get annoyed whenever I asked her when her class was at QCG, dunno why.. she was like, what, two? three levels higher than me? something like that… I wonder if she’s still in it…
Oh I don’t know I guess this is proof that I’ve always been violent; once I got scolded by Ms. Brooks for pretending to hit Zach with my paper…
Sometime in fourth grade, we went outside to do an experiment on erosion. It was kinda cold outside, and the sky was cloudy, and Ms. Bates poured the water from the four-cup measuring cup, and we watched the mud slideeeeee… wheee… we weren’t even outside for five minutes, and then we were back in.
We were doing some science experiment with matches, and we set of the fire alarm in our room, and the office called and asked what was going on, and Ms. Bates told them that we were doing an experiment, and Mrs. Bennet lauged.
Sometime after the ground-breaking ceremony for the new BAE, Dr. James asked everyone who’d gone to sing at the ceremony to come down to the office to sing for the whole school over the speaker, and Liz and I forgot, we heard them start singing, so we quickly hurried downstairs to join them, and Dr. James said, “And you might have heard we had two more people join us, girls, please announce yourselves…” and Liz didn’t want to do it, so I said “Elizabeth King and Aisa Patag” and when we went back to our homeroom, I think it was Jared? who said something like, we heard you guys over the intercom.. lol.
TUG OF WAR ON FIELD DAY! HEAVEN!!!!!
We’d play mat kickball in the gym, and Kelsey kicked the ball so high, it almost hit the light.
Mr. Stoneburger threw me the football while we were running around the gym. Great. I didn’t catch it. If anything I avoided it. And when I passed him, he asked why I didn’t catch it. I CAN’T CATCH A FOOTBALL!!!!!
I had to sit out, because I’d just come back from pnuemonia, and Mr. Stoneburger sat down with me on the stage and made me laugh about the pronunciation of words like pnuemonia and knee…
I used to live close to the Bergs, and Chris and Lindsay and I would race at Hunt Park on our bikes. Emily lived there, too, she was two grades higher than me, and I’d bike with her a lot.
HAH mah baaaddd we used to pass notes in third grade…
Oh back in second grade I didn’t like my last name, because no one could pronounce it, and the boys in art class called me “Aisa no-name” and I didn’t tell the teacher, but Greg and some of the girls told for me though I didn’t ask them to, and I had to say who it was… I think I made enemies that day. *grin* I wasn’t yet at the stage where I could handle it. I’m there, now….
Mrs. Berryman used to let us lie or sit wherever we pleased during some of our lessons. Some time when I had a book and Brian had a worksheet, we ended up lying facing away from each other up at the front of the room in front of the blackboard. I GOT THERE FIRST, I’d just like to make that clear. So anyway, we ended up kicking each other while working. When Mrs. Berryman said it was time to go back to our seats, I hadn’t finished the chapter yet, so I was like “awww,” naturally, and GRRRR Brian had to say in front of the whole class, “I knew it! You like me!” I suppose that’s how he interpreted the “awww.” I wasn’t at the punching age yet, so I didn’t do anything except go berserk inside?
Haha two of the most memorable movies that I watched in fourth grade, during indoor recess, were Swiss Family Robinson (after we’d finished the book and our projects), and Toy Story.
I used to knit during indoor recess.
Ugh. Medecine at lunch. Drove me nuts.
Ice cream sandwiches were rare and a treat!!!! in the lunch room.
HAHA lining up for the snack trolley…
Ms. Bates would turn off the lights and read to us after recess, and we were allowed to lie or sit wherever we pleased, so I’d usually lie on the floor in the front of the room, or I’d actually crawl under her desk. It was fun. I was still small enough that I could slip under her desk without having to go around to the other side of it… I’d just slip under while lying face-up.
The fourth grade penny challenge!!! How could anyone forget that?!
HAH HAH HAH I came really really close to crying when we sang the goodbye song at the fourth grade celebration.
Alex Roth used to sing in the halls. Dunno. That’s all.
Beth, Candice, Aliza, and Lydia threw a surprise party for me before I left. We had pizza and went swimming, and Beth had a pie from her mom for me to take home. YUMMMM…
OMG listening to Dido and Uncle Kracker in the classroom.
Computer Classes!!! I’ll never forget that awesome typing program.. along with all the other funn games we learned to play… Mrs. Ursini was strict, though, and one of my greatest displeasures was when we had to make our own slide each, and I’d been working with the Powerpoint program for ages on dad’s laptop, so I knew plenty about it, and I knew exactly what I wanted my slide to look like, but she wouldn’t let me do what I wanted with it, and she just wanted me to do the basics like everyone else. GRRR ah well…
Being recommended for the Cinci Youth Choir… I suppose I’d be in it if we hadn’t moved… but that’s ok. I loved my intimate little OLS Youth Choir in PA.
I played Do Re Mi on the piano for my class, and at the end, Kevin and Derick and I were discussing piano…
When we watched part of Sound of Music in the music room, Derick and I were singing along.
THE RESEARCH FAIR!!! at the high school… funnnnn… though I lost mum’s hair thingy the first time… My first was about the Pilipinas, and the second was on being a florist…
yayyy I got my ears pierced… again. And now one of them is closed up. Again.
Rose introduced me Gab on the bus… didn’t think he was pinoy at first, it wasn’t until the next day when Rose told me that he’d shared with everyone the word for hello in his language that I realized it was TAGALOG and I was like WHAT?!?!?!!?
Ohh I remember playing with Satya… geez that was ages ago…
Ughhh when I was in second grade, there were these two fourth graders named Jessica and Tommy, who’d yell across the bus to each other about going to proms and such. WTH???
HAH Beth and I were obsessed with Allstar. We’d sing it every single recess.
We went to see the play Androcles and the Lion, and I wore my purple dress. I loved that dress…
SCHOOL PICTURES! GRRR!!!!
I never got BAE spirit wear… wahhhhhh
In art class, Alex asked me once if I liked basketball, but before I could say anything, Derick says “NO!” Whatever, I said yes, anyway… I never figured out what that was all about…
Jared said he’d write to me when I moved away. *grin* He never did. Boys….
HAH HAH HAH Alex’s shoes… what are they called again? dunno those springy sneakers whatever… basketball shoes… do they really help at all?! whatever…
Mr. Korn’s calligraphy class!!! Loved it.
Oh EWWW Cory used to turn his eyelids inside-out to gross out the girls who were stuck on the bench during recess… urrghhh torture… I think Felicia used to encourage him… and then she’d do it, too… bleh.
Mana’s little sister used to try and grab my bandana…
Library days were the best!!!!
Accelerated reader… funnn… especially having your certificate posted on the wall.
UGHHH I definitely don’t think I was the only one who hated Chris Berg? Christen had ESpecial right to hate him… anyway… one of the less… major… things that he’d do, was jump in front of a girl and start singing “Livin’ La Vida Loca” really loud. He especially liked doing this when everyone was hurrying to line up again to go inside.
Fourth of July concert ’01. Derick passed out Kit Kat bars. That’s all. Wow, that was random…
Mum made me little “business cards” when we were moving away. So I passed them out on the last day of school at morning meeting, and Katie taped hers in her fourth grade memories book.
Family picnic, and mum and dad couldn’t come for some reason or another… so I ended up sitting with the De Velas.
HAHA in second grade I used to teach Derick filipino card games while we were waiting for the bus…
While waiting for the bus, Ms. Bates would have us clean up the room, just looking around for little bits of paper… pencil sharpenings… staples… that type thing.
WRITING NUMBERS ON THE BOARD WAS FUNNN!!!! lol.
The day of the fourth grade spelling bee, Ms. Bates was out, and we had a sub, and when we came back to the room after I’d won the spelling bee, she wrote my name on the board and used the special colored chalk and put lots of ribbons and confetti. She was really good at drawing.
Heather broke her pinky in fourth grade… she had a little splint.
Jacqueline got sick on the day of the play, so Mrs. Berryman asked me to take her part at the last minute.
Front tucks off the end of the beam into the pit!!! ROCKSSS!!!!
Second and third grade, as I was one of the younger students, seating on the bus sucked. I was forever moving around… or I had to share the back seat, and that was small and no fun. On the first day of fourth grade, I went straight to the back. Hey! No one was there. YESSSSS mine all mine…. and I had the satisfaction of having the back seat all to myself for an entire year. Rose and Bennet sat across the aisle from me, and Gab sat in front of her.
Sometimes, Rose and Bennet wouldn’t ride the bus. Since they were all the way in the back, the bus driver couldn’t see. So if they weren’t there, she’d look into her rearview mirror, and I’d stand up and shake my head, and she’d drive on.
LIGHTS OFF in the cafeteria meant SILENCE and it drove us INSANE.
Interesting visits to our school were; the Shawnee Indian, the weather guy, the yo-yo guy…
The HUDDLE group that was working with us pretended to have mental powers on the day we met them, and they knew that Kelsey and Alex had siblings. We found out later that they’d gotten the information from the Student Spotlight downstairs. LOL.
THE GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY for the new BAE… it was wet and raining and freezing cold, and we were all in t-shirts and jeans, because we were all supposed to be matching… and I don’t think we had sweaters? The mayor and the governor were there… and we had to stand in front of them to sing.
TITANIC VOICES AT BARNES AND NOBLE!!!! I still have it on video!!!!
The sticker typer in the gifted program room… that was funnn…
Ohhh the mile run drove me nuts… never made it under 10 minutes, I think.
I got sick, and when I got back, it turns out I’d done more homework than I needed to, so Mrs. Messick let me play on the computer while everyone else did math. Which they were quite mad at me for.
The BAE Halloween party!!!!
Zach Wulliger, for some reason or another, in third grade, sent me a lollipop on Valentine’s day. See, we could send them around the school for 25 cents, and they were on our desk after lunch. I’m not sure if Payne Helmers sent me one, too? LOL those two… they’ve prolly forgotten me, but they were two of my best friends, back then…
We’d make up our own routines at gymnastics. That was funn…
Healthy Snack Contest. Derick and Kevin won; banana splits. I think I voted for Jared and Alex though… those muffins were good…
Jolly Ranchers in Ms. Bates’ class!!!
Berryman’s Bistro… a heck of a lot of fun! Beth always brought the best brownies and such… I think I liked staying in the back and serving, best.
My planet project, where I had pictures of me doing the symbols for each planet. I think Mrs. Messick still has it…
OHH reading Secret of Nimh. And then I got pnuemonia at the same time that Timothy did. LOL.
The red “jewel” that was in the drain outside caused us much grief and time trying to figure out how we’d get it.
OH OUCH falling down the steps in my hurry to get in line was never fun.
The picnic in second grade was on the same day as my birthday, so mum and dad came with cupcakes. YUM.
Oh heavens, Derick Rivera and Cory Gamber along with a bunch of other annoying boys used to pin girls up against the brick wall at recess. I remember, cuz I was one of those girls!! Though when I said quite calmly, “Derick, let me go,” he did, I guess cuz he figured if I wasn’t gonna make a fuss like the other girls were doing, it wasn’t going to be any fun torturing me, after all.
When learning proper and common nouns, Ms. Bates would call out a noun, and we’d sit up straight if it was proper, and slouch if it was common.
Mini society! I’ve already forgotten what I did in third grade.
Micki B’s Gameshow…
Gingerbread houses…
Ms. Bates always had a grid with the question of the day on the board on the right wall facing the front, and our job every morning when we came in was to answer that question by putting up our picture next to our answer.
We learned a bit of how to play the harp, and I got stuck with Michael Deger as my partner…
The Red, White, and Blue celebration… Josh Meyer sang solo. He had a good voice.
Gabriella Keeton and I sang De Colores at our presentation at Barnes & Noble.
Hot Shot was the highest level at Queen City before team. When I reached Hot Shot, I was so proud of myself.
Mr. Buckman asked for signatures to petition Edwards Ave being changed to the original Edwards Ct.
OHH learning how to bike without training wheels. Wow. AGes ago…
I guess Andrew Haunert used to live near me… cuz I’d see him at Hunt Park with his friends.
Everyone knew that Andrew Spellman was amazing at drawing. I still have the Daffy Duck that he drew for me.
OHHH moving from Cinci to PA… ouch. I still remember all the boxes stacked up everywhere…
I used to fry polish sausage for myself in the mornings before school. Even then, I HAD TO HAVE RICE or I’d be hungry all morning.
Drawing pics for the school year-book! I got in… once. LOL it was still an honor.
The field trip to the Taft Museum! That was totally cool… I think the ones I remember best were the paintings of the sheep and then the two portraits where their eyes followed you.. ooohhh…
Hah, I fell asleep on the way to Wright Patterson. I sat with Lydia, and Beth and Christen and Michelle sat across the aisle. Everyone on the bus was singing… oh what was it? “One hundred bottles of beer on the wall, one hundred bottles of beer, take one down, pass it around, ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall, ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall, ninety-nine bottles of beer, take one down…” HAH we tried to see who could keep going the longest, and a group of boys claimed they’d reached negative 17. LIARS! lol.
Field trip to the downtown post office, and also the newspaper press.
Liz and I were practically always partners in fourth grade… So I’d be over at her house a lot. I’ll never forget watching Pokemon… eating rice, ravioli, cabbage, and homemade sausage… oh I loved that.
At Beth’s sleepover birthday party, we watched Air Bud, World Pup.
Tetherball!!!! I sucked, but who cares?!?!? LOL..
My First Communion. May 15th, 1999. Ninang Joy curled my hair.
Brian and I had our First Reconciliation together. Haha I bet he doesn’t remember. We were right across the aisle from each other. *wave!* lol.
Children’s liturgy… I loved it.
HAH the cry room changed places, like, I dunno, 3 times? while we were there… because of the new additions and everything… now Good Shepherd is, like, huge… but I think it’s too big now. I like it better before… ah well.
Hehe, one Mass, the De Velas were sitting in front of us, and it wasn’t until peace that I realized it. Mah baaddd…
Ohhh the field trip to Sharon Woods… ahh tasting that apple-maple syrup… ooh I haven’t forgotten how it tastes. Ah, I want some now… wah. Oh, and we were following the trail, and we walked along the creek on the rocks, and wehad to walk with our backs to the wall and holding hands as we edged along…
