I really liked this book. Paco read it, too, and I think he enjoyed it also.
The Winged Watchman is about the Nazis in Holland. Joris Verhagen doesn't remember much about life before the Nazis came. His older brother, Dirk Jan, remembers a lot. Joris thinks he must be joking when he tells of how free they used to be. The Verhagen family is Mother, Father, Dirk Jan, Joris, and Trixie. Trixie is not actually their child, but she doesn't know it. Her family was taken away by the Nazis, and she was only a baby. Her mother had managed to hide her, and by frantic gestures behind the Nazis backs, she indicated to Joris' mother to look for something she had hidden. Mother found the child and named her Trixie, for she didn't know the child's real name. Dear mother hates the Nazis. She does not believe that God would really ask her to love the Nazis. The Verhagens are very strong Catholics.
Joris' life is starting to get very exciting; hiding aviators, defying the laws of the Nazis, his uncle Cor is a member of the Underground, and so is their doctor's niece. Life is getting more and more exciting, but also more and more dangerous. Will peace ever come?
